In the last 3–4 years Xiaomi’s Redmi Note line of smartphones have been devastating for Samsung’s smartphone business. In the meatiest segment of the Indian smartphone industry, Xiaomi outgunned the big South Korean company’s devices by offering better features, heavier duty specifications and arguably better designed phones. Earlier this year, Samsung decided to strike back. It launched its Galaxy M series of smartphones as an Amazon exclusive which take on Xiaomi’s devices head on. The latest Galaxy M40 which launches later this throws a spanner to Xiaomi’s challenge and it could be one of the favorite phones for the Indian masses. Let’s take a deep dive into the why.

  1. Samsung has introduced its infinity O display on this phone. And at Rs 19,990, this phone is the cheapest phone with a punch-hole style screen which Samsung first introduced on its flagship phones. That being said, this is a LCD panel which is bright and vivid while also featuring a capacious 6.1-inch screen. Probably, for a sub 20k phone this has the best screen you can get.
  2. Triple cameras on the back are a rare appearance on any phone. This one despite being so affordable has three cameras on the back led by a 32-megapixel camera with a f/1.7 aperture and a wide angle lens which makes this a very versatile camera phone. Image quality is also mostly very good, though it’s not the best, however, the triple camera system makes it the most flexible one with a depth sensor included for portraits.
  3. With Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 675 processor at its heart coupled with 6GB RAM and 128GB of storage, this phone is plenty powerful and has the same firepower as the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Pro. Samsung’s One UI is also highly optimised and unlike Xiaomi’s MiUI it doesn’t run advertisements which makes this the more nicer phone to use in the day to day usage. And yes, this a fast phone which also is great for gaming with games like PUBG.
  4. Design wise this phone is compact, handy and light with a glitzy back that has a shimmery blue. This makes it a very convenient phone to carry around, even though it’s a huge fingerprint magnet. But overall compared to phones like the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 Pro, this is a phone which is easy to use and carry around.
  5. People who are looking for a phone that’s by a world renowned brand and doesn’t have the stingma of a Chinese company will also appreciate this phone. It provides the balance between both worlds which makes this an attractive phone. Samsung’s phones are also not rabidly sold out on online platforms the way Xiaomi’s are, so this will be more convenient to purchase on Amazon.

Other than this, this phone comes with a reliable fingerprint scanner and arguably better after sales which will also be a criterion for people to purchase this device. Make no mistake, this will be one of the best selling phones of the year for Samsung.
