warpcore weekend guide 3.7

Delhi NCR

Interstellar funk & the Funk District: What marks out Interstellar Funk’s productions and DJ sets are Olf Van Elden’s love of the imperfections and eccentricities associated with left-of-centre analogue machine music. You’ll hear them within the new wave, electro, techno, jack-tracks, heavy electronics and everything in between that populate his DJ sets. This Amsterdam DJ brings his mad sound back to India and hits Delhi while on his three-city tour this Thursday, 10 October. This first of its kind collaboration between Milkman and warpcore will also see Mexican DJ, The Funk District, who is known for his sample-based, groovy tracks, who has been especially flown down by Helsinki Nights; and beloved local DJs, Girls Night Out and N*hilate going back to back on an opening set, so this gig promises to be a weekday extravaganza you don’t want to miss!

Microtrauma: Nightvibe’s 14th edition of ‘INTIMATE’ featuring the dark melodic duo and prominent House/Techno artists, Microtrauma (Einmusika/Parquet) alongside veteran Rummy Sharma at Summer House Cafe Delhi on Friday, 11 October. Microtrauma has developed its own style from almost ten years of working and tinkering together and are known for their melodic, dark, technoid and minimal sound.

Disco Puppet: Disco Puppet’s Album Launch Tour, a theatrical performance with sets, visuals, light design and an actor/movement artist, where the performance space is as much a part of the narrative as the music and performer. ‘Aranyer Dinratri’ is presented in a stream of consciousness format. The tracks flow into one another, weaving a narrative of search, discovery and acceptance. The album was released on 30th September via Consolidate and is on a three-city tour in October — Mumbai, Bangalore and Delhi with a brand new multidisciplinary show. The Delhi leg of the tour is on Friday, 11 October at Piano Man Jazz Club, Gurgaon.

Film: warpcore x ownage are hosting their first event at FOXTROT Cyberhub on Saturday, 12 October featuring an eclectic lineup headlined by the glitchy, cinematic and bombastic FILM, who will be supported by the dreamy and melodic Murklin and the housey disco vibes of Moody. The three acts sound monumentally different but are known to get the floor grooving to their enchanting musicality. Don’t miss this oddball yet interesting line-up.

Murthovic: Focused on the evolution and growth of electronic music in India, Redroom Sessions is set to transform the spaces of Raise The Bar to bring alive a night of upbeat and dynamic electro music for a revolutionary musical experience. For this session, they bring the brilliant and quietly influential, Murthovic, who is an enigmatic phenomena in the Indian electronic scene. Catch this session on Saturday, 12 October.

Fehrplay: Never one to talk down his Norwegian roots, the life and times of Jonas Fehr have not been limited to one global locality. He has shown an encyclopedic musical knowledge. Relishing the opportunity to play personal favourites, new and old, and cuts that never quite broke into the digital market, his ability to draw music from across the dance music spectrum has proven an undeniable asset. He brings all this and more to the dance floor of Mango Kitchen and Bar on Friday, 11 October.

Outside Delhi NCR

Interstellar Funk: After initiating his tour in Delhi, Olf Van Elden takes his eccentricity to Mumbai on Friday, 11 October at the newly inaugurated Anti Social and Bangalore on Sunday, 13 October at Sarajpur Social. Van Elden’s ascent in underground electronic music culture has not come as a surprise to those within Amsterdam’s club scene. He was wowing home crowds long before he bagged a sought-after residency at now-departed venue Trouw, and more recently at its widely beloved successor De School. Van Elden continually sets out to combine the unlikely and create electronic music that fits into the DJ/producer’s intoxicating, otherworldly aesthetic.

Mumbai Oktoberfest: Experience Germany in Mumbai, and dance to the tunes of the official Oktoberfest Band ‘Die Kirchdorfer’ which has been playing live in the Munich Oktoberfest since 1994. The Mumbai Oktoberfest is part of ‘German Days in Mumbai ‘ celebrations which is co-hosted by the Indo-German Chamber of Commerce and the German Consulate General, Mumbai. The ‘German Days in Mumbai’ will showcase various facets of Germany’ excellence along the lines of Business, Education, Tourism, Sports and Lifestyle starting from Thursday, 11 October until Sunday, 13 October at Mumbai’s Mahalaxmi Main Course.

Blackstratblues: Blackstratblues showcases their fifth album When It’s Time, coming in after The Last Analog Generation which went to #1 on the all India iTunes chart. The quartet has been playing together since 2013 and has evolved into an explosive live act that spans everything from organic Rock & Blues to Electronica and vintage Psychedelia. The band’s sophomore leg of the tour is in Pune at Euriska on Saturday, 12 October and Mumbai at antiSocial on Sunday, 13 October.

Peter Cat Recording Company: In celebration of their recently released album Bismillah, PCRC continues touring their critically acclaimed album and shall display their magnificence via their Made in India show at Skydeck, Bangalore on Sunday, 13 October.

Disco Puppets: Disco Puppets continue touring their third full-length album, ‘Aranyer Dinratri’, inspired by an eponymously named after the Satyajit Ray Film. Like most of their previous work, the album remains sonically adventurous, contrasting assiduously crafted moments of tenderness with outright abrasion. There are playful moments too where they experiment with samples, tape machine artefacts and saturated 808s — building on their familiar yet ever-evolving sound palette. The Bangalore leg of the tour is on Sunday, 13 October at Fandom At Gilly’s Redefined.

Fehrplay: After successfully captivating the global market and making his India debut with an agenda as educational to fans new-and-old as it is indicative to fuelling global club land and its ever-expanding dance floors, Jonas Fehr will continue spinning dizzying beats at Cafe TC in Agra on Sunday, 13 October.
