Rockstar’s co-founder is leaving, everything you need to know about Dan Houser

Vice president of Rockstar Games — the creators of the Grand Theft Auto series — Dan Houser is leaving the company in March. In an official statement issued by Rockstar’s parent company Take-Two Interactive, Houser’s contributions to the company were celebrated and the company’s focus to creating more world-class IP’s (Intellectual Properties) reinforced.

“After an extended break beginning in the spring of 2019, Dan Houser, Vice President, Creative at Rockstar Games, will be leaving the company. Dan Houser’s last day will be March 11, 2020. We are extremely grateful for his contributions. Rockstar Games has built some of the most critically acclaimed and commercially successful game worlds, a global community of passionate fans and an incredibly talented team, which remains focused on current and future projects.”

• Dan Houser and his brother Sam Houser founded Rockstar Games in 1998 as part of parent company Take-Two Interactive.
• Houser was instrumental in creating both the Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption series.
• He served as the lead writer on Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption 2.
• Grand Theft Auto V is considered the most profitable entertainment product of all time. The game made more than $1 billion within the first three days of its launch in 2013. It’s the third best selling game of all time.
• Red Dead Redemption 2 earned $725 million within the first weekend of its launch.
• He also served as producer and writer on Bully and Max Payne 3, both considered cult favourites.
• Take-Two Interactive’s stocks fell 5% on the announcement of Houser’s departure.

Take-Two has also announced that Sam Houser’s role as President with Rockstar Games remains unchanged.
