Apple’s Shazam has 200 million monthly active users, releases top 100 searched songs

Shazam which was acquired by Apple in 2018 has exceeded 200 million global monthly active users. Of course, Shazam is best known for identifying songs that you don’t know as it allows you to listen to the audio and tell you which song is playing in your surroundings, recognizing the sound in a few seconds and giving you the names of the artist, the track, the disc and even your lyrics, to sing along loudly.

Shazam can be used as a standalone application or as a built-in function of iPhone and iPad, which can be accessed through Siri and the new music recognition switching function in the control centre of iOS 14. It has also been available on Android for years. Besides Siri, Shazam also helped Apple in another way. It would have contributed to the real-time lyrics on Apple Music, which of course is a useful feature for a music player.

After Apple had integrated Shazam into Siri since iOS 8, the Cupertino-based manufacturer took over the app at the end of 2017 and made it available free of advertising.

Celebrating this milestone, Shazam has shared a list of the 100 most Shazamed songs in its history, which are available on Apple Music. The number one song on the chart is Tones and I’s popular single “Dance Monkey”. Since its release in May 2019, Shazam has been played more than 36.6 million times. Tones and I stated that Shazam has had a significant impact on reaching new audiences.

Shazam was launched in 2002 by Shazam Entertainment Limited, founded in 1999 by Chris Barton, Philip Inghelbrecht, Avery Wang and Dhiraj Mukherjee.
